Yatra was founded in August 2006 by Dhruv Shringi, Manish Amin and Sabina Chopra, and is headquartered in Gurugram, Haryana. It grew into one of India's leading online travel agencies (a MakeMyTrip / Cleartrip / Booking.com-style OTA), aggregating flights, hotels, trains, buses, cabs and holiday packages onto a single booking platform. The consumer app has crossed 10 million downloads and Yatra is an IRCTC-authorized partner for train bookings. Ownership and financials are unusually layered for an 'Indian' brand. The India-listed operating entity is Yatra Online Limited (NSE: YATRA, BSE: 543992), which completed its domestic IPO in September 2023. Above it sits Yatra Online, Inc. (NASDAQ: YTRA), which listed on NASDAQ in 2016 via a SPAC merger — making Yatra only the second Indian e-commerce company to list there. The company is Indian-founded, Indian-managed and Gurugram-headquartered, but the ultimate holding company is incorporated overseas and much of the stock sits with public and institutional investors. For FY24 (year ended March 2024) Yatra reported revenue of about ₹422 crore (~USD 50.9 million), up ~11% year-on-year, and remained roughly at breakeven with a small net loss. Yatra's real strength today is B2B, not the consumer app. It is India's largest managed corporate travel services provider, serving 1,300+ large corporates and roughly 58,000 SME clients with an addressable employee base of over 9 million. This corporate travel and MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences, events) arm — further expanded by the September 2024 acquisition of Globe Travels / Globe All India Services — is the company's main growth engine, offering self-booking tools, expense integration and dedicated account management that consumers never see. The revenue model is classic OTA economics: commissions and markups from airlines, hotels and bus operators, convenience and service fees on bookings, cancellation charges, advertising, and margin on packaged holidays and corporate contracts. Yatra also runs an 'eCash' loyalty wallet that recycles refunds and promos back into future bookings. Yatra is best for price-sensitive domestic flyers hunting deals and coupons, and especially for companies that want a single managed travel desk. Its honest weaknesses are on the consumer side: customer support and refund handling draw heavy criticism, the app can be buggy at the payment step, and pricing is muddied by convenience fees and eCash that some users find hard to redeem as real money. Travelers who value fast, reliable post-booking support often prefer the airline direct or a rival OTA.
