It positions itself as a privacy-first, Made-in-India alternative to Truecaller. Naam's core differentiator is that it identifies unknown callers without syncing your contacts or reading your SMS — unlike Truecaller which uploads your entire phonebook. The app uses reinforcement learning to analyze caller patterns and detect spammers with an 82% accuracy rate. It shows caller name, designation, location, and organization for unknown numbers. The database covers over 500 million phone numbers. The app is lightweight at just 5.9 MB and supports 9 Indian languages (English, Hindi, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Marathi, and more). Naam is best suited for privacy-conscious users who want caller ID without the privacy trade-offs of Truecaller. However, multiple users report that caller ID only shows up after the call ends rather than during ringing, which defeats the core purpose.
