Darwinbox is an enterprise HR software suite founded in 2015 in Hyderabad by Jayant Paleti, Chaitanya Peddi and Rohit Chennamaneni (with Vineet Singh elevated as fourth co-founder in 2024). The legal entity is Darwinbox Digital Solutions Pvt Limited, India, with regional offices in Singapore, Dubai, Indonesia and the UK. It became India's 84th unicorn in 2022 and now serves 2 million+ employees across 700+ enterprise customers including Mahindra, Tata AIA, Adani, More Retail, Sembcorp and Kopi Kenangan. The platform covers the full hire-to-retire lifecycle: recruitment and ATS, onboarding, core HR, payroll, leave and attendance, performance management, employee engagement, learning, and HR analytics. It supports 45+ languages and currencies, ships with 50+ pre-built reports plus a drag-and-drop custom report builder, and is built mobile-first — both employees and HR admins can run most workflows from the iOS or Android app. Configurability is the headline feature: workflows, forms, approvals and policies can be customised without code, which is why it lands large Indian conglomerates with complex statutory and shift-based requirements. Pricing is per-employee per-month with tiers structured for under 500, 500–2,500, 2,500–10,000 and over 10,000 employees. There is no free trial — every deployment is custom-quoted, and there is no self-serve plan for SMBs. Compared to Workday or SAP SuccessFactors, Darwinbox typically wins on India compliance depth, time-to-go-live and total cost of ownership; compared to Zoho People or Keka, it is heavier and more expensive but covers enterprise needs (multi-country, complex shift rules, deep performance) those tools do not. Best fit for mid-market and enterprise companies (1,000+ employees) in India, Southeast Asia and the Middle East that need a modern, configurable HRMS without committing to a Workday-scale budget. Less suitable for small businesses or startups under 200 employees — the price point and configuration overhead do not pay back at that scale.
