Ulaa - Private, Secure, and Superfast Browser
Ulaa is a privacy-first web browser built by Zoho Corporation out of Chennai, India. Launched globally in early 2025, it's built on Chromium (the same open-source engine behind Chrome) but strips out Google's tracking infrastructure entirely. Zoho's promise is straightforward: no browsing data collected, no data sold to advertisers, no anonymized statistics gathered unless you opt in. The browser won the Indian Web Browser Development Challenge from the Ministry of Electronics and IT. The built-in ad blocker goes beyond banner removal โ it intercepts crypto miners, malware domains, social trackers, cookie consent pop-ups, and cryptocurrency mining scripts. By default, Ulaa disables DNS prefetching (which leaks browsing data to ISPs) and turns off motion sensors to prevent device fingerprinting. Five specialized browsing modes โ Work, Personal, Kids, Developer, and Open Season โ each with different privacy and content settings, let users separate contexts without switching profiles. Built-in productivity tools include a tab manager, time tracker, note-taking panel, and task reminders. Ulaa is completely free with no paid tiers, no premium upsells, and no ads. Chrome extensions are compatible since Ulaa uses the Chromium engine. Compared to Chrome (which monetizes your browsing data), Firefox (privacy-focused but slower), and Brave (privacy browser with its own ad network), Ulaa offers Zoho's unique position: a profitable company that doesn't need browser data for revenue, making the privacy promise more credible. Best suited for privacy-conscious users, Zoho ecosystem customers (seamless integration with Zoho Mail, CRM, etc.), and anyone tired of Chrome's data collection. The browser is lighter on memory and battery than Chrome, making it good for older hardware. Users needing a massive extension library or deep customization may find the ecosystem smaller than Chrome or Firefox. Some high-security websites may not function properly with aggressive privacy settings enabled.
