JioSaavn (formed by the 2018 merger of Reliance Jio's music service and Saavn, which launched in 2007) is India's largest music streaming platform. Its own Google Play listing states a catalogue of 8 crore+ (80 million) songs across 16 languages — Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Punjabi, Marathi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Bhojpuri, Odia, Assamese, Rajasthani, Haryanvi, and English. JioSaavn's biggest advantage is its bundling with Reliance Jio's telecom plans — several Jio postpaid and prepaid plans bundle JioSaavn Pro at no extra cost, which is why a large share of Jio subscribers have never paid for it separately. Which plans include it changes over time, so check your own plan rather than a blog's list. Standalone JioSaavn Pro is sold as individual, family and duo subscriptions on monthly and yearly plans with a 30-day free trial, per the app's own Play Store listing. We do not quote a rupee price for it: JioSaavn's pricing page is behind a bot challenge and cannot be read without a browser, and the Play Store discloses only a broad in-app purchase range of Rs 10 to Rs 4,150 per item. Prices also vary by promotion, so check the figure shown in your own account. The catalog is particularly strong in Bollywood, regional Indian cinema soundtracks, devotional music, and original content (JioSaavn Originals). JioSaavn also holds exclusive first-release rights for many Bollywood movie soundtracks through T-Series, Zee Music, and Yash Raj Films partnerships. Features include HD audio (320kbps) on Pro, offline downloads, custom mixes, lyrics, podcasts, and JioTunes (caller tunes). JioSaavn is best suited for Jio subscribers (free Pro is unbeatable value), Bollywood and Indian regional music fans, and households looking for a single app that serves multiple Indian language preferences. International music listeners and podcast-heavy users will find the competition (Spotify, Apple Music) better positioned for their needs.

JioSaavn Pro costs Rs 99 per month for the Individual plan, read directly from JioSaavn's own Pro page (jiosaavn.com/propage) on 27 August 2026. Students pay Rs 49 per month, reduced from Rs 99. There is also a short-term tier, Pro Lite, at Rs 9 per day or Rs 29 per week — the cheapest legitimate way to get ad-free listening for a few days, though JioSaavn notes that unlimited JioTunes are not included with it. A JioTunes+ add-on is Rs 49 per month, but that is a caller-tune add-on and not full Pro. Two things worth knowing: the Pro page shows no annual plan and no duo or family plan at all, so the widely-quoted 'Rs 399 per year' figure does not appear on JioSaavn's own pricing page — it may still exist inside the payment flow, but it is not advertised. And the free ad-supported tier remains: JioSaavn's Play listing still calls it "India's leading FREE music app". Many Jio telecom plans bundle Pro at no extra cost, so check your plan before paying anything.
For most Indian listeners today, JioSaavn. The clearest difference is the free tier: JioSaavn markets itself as a free ad-supported music app and offers a 30-day Pro trial, while Gaana's own homepage now leads with a paid "Welcome Offer: Trial @ ₹1" and publishes no free-listening offer or price page at all — gaana.com/plus returns a 404. The ratings gap points the same way: on the Indian Play Store JioSaavn holds 4.4 from about 8.9 million ratings against Gaana's 4.0 from about 5.1 million. Momentum differs too — JioSaavn is Jio-backed and shipping updates constantly, whereas Gaana changed hands in a distress sale to Entertainment Network India Ltd and is now run by a far smaller parent. Gaana's remaining argument is legacy Bollywood catalogue depth and brand familiarity. If you want free music streaming, JioSaavn is the straightforward choice.
JioSaavn is free to stream with advertisements and you do not need a Jio SIM to use it — anyone can install it and listen. What a Jio connection can add is JioSaavn Pro bundled into certain telecom plans at no extra charge, which is why many Jio users have never paid for it separately. If you are not on Jio, you get the free ad-supported tier and can subscribe to Pro directly — Rs 99 a month, or Rs 49 a month if you are a student (verified on JioSaavn's Pro page, 27 August 2026).

Cancel in the same place you paid, not just inside the app. If you subscribed through Google Play, open Play Store → profile → Payments and subscriptions → Subscriptions and cancel there. If you set up a UPI AutoPay mandate through GPay, PhonePe or Paytm, you must separately revoke that mandate inside the payment app under its Autopay or Mandates section. This matters: the most common JioSaavn complaint on consumer-review sites is money continuing to be debited after a user believed they had cancelled, and in most of those reports the underlying mandate was never revoked. Check both places if the charges do not stop.
