It depends on what you need. Mappls has deeper rural and village-level coverage of India and offers India-specific features Google Maps lacks, including live traffic signal timers, 3D junction views and a truck routing mode with toll calculation. But it will not automatically reroute you to a faster alternate path mid-drive, and the navigation zoom sits too close to see roads 200-300 metres ahead. For everyday city driving most users still prefer Google Maps; for rural India, trucking and eLoc-based address lookup, Mappls is the stronger tool.
The consumer Mappls app is free to download and use for navigation, maps and safety alerts — there is no subscription for individual drivers. Businesses and developers who embed Mappls mapping, geocoding or routing APIs pay for a commercial plan instead. That developer pricing is quoted per customer rather than published openly, which makes it harder to compare against Google Maps Platform before you talk to sales.
It is mixed, and worth knowing before a long trip.
