About This App

Nyburs is a hyperlocal social media app from India that swaps the global feed model for a neighbourhood-first experience. Instead of mixing posts from strangers worldwide, every channel, group and circle is anchored to a real place — a village, mohalla, city ward or college campus — so updates, events and conversations come from people who actually live nearby. The app launched publicly in April 2025 from Bangalore and is led by co-founders Navin Sharma (CEO) and Vishal Chaudhary. The core feed is built around three units: Channels (broadcast updates from local creators or institutions), Groups (focused communities like residents' associations or hobby clubs), and Circles (private friend or family clusters with their own visibility settings). All three are filterable by locality and language, with support for 12+ Indian regional languages out of the box. Encrypted chats, local moderation tools and Circle-level visibility controls are positioned as the privacy differentiator versus Facebook and Instagram. Monetisation for users is unusual: Nyburs runs daily cash contests, weekly challenges, live streams and a referral programme designed to pay creators and active community members in rupees rather than ad-revenue shares they never see. The platform is free to install on Android and iOS, and is also distributed through the Indus Appstore. Best fit if you want a real-world community feed for your colony, residents' welfare association, college or village — and you are open to a smaller network in exchange for hyperlocal context and a vernacular-first experience. Less useful if you want global reach, professional networking, or established creator audiences — those still live on Instagram, YouTube and LinkedIn.

Honest Review

4.2/5 on Google Play Store · Last verified 2026-04-25

What works well

  • +Hyperlocal-first — feeds anchored to your village, mohalla, ward or campus instead of a global timeline
  • +Native support for 12+ Indian regional languages, not bolted on as a translation layer
  • +Cash contests, weekly challenges and referral payouts give regular users (not just influencers) a way to earn
  • +Encrypted chats and Circle-level visibility settings are stronger by default than Facebook Groups
  • +Distributed on Indus Appstore alongside Play Store and App Store

What needs improvement

  • -Network is small — outside metros and select campuses, your neighbourhood may not be active yet
  • -Cash-contest mechanics can attract spammy or low-quality posting from yield-chasers
  • -Limited public information on funding, team size and long-term roadmap
  • -Web experience is marketing-only — actual usage is mobile-app first

Common user complaints

  • !Empty feeds in smaller towns until enough neighbours sign up — chicken-and-egg cold start
  • !Notification volume can spike during contests and challenge days
  • !Some moderation decisions on local groups feel inconsistent across regions
  • !Onboarding asks for location permission upfront which puts off privacy-conscious users
